October 2023 was not a good month for travel. This is the first time this year, where we had a month with lower sales vs the previous year with a 3% decrease in sales vs 2022. We also saw the largest delta between 2023 and 2019 with $1B less in sales. Total passenger trips also decreased for 2 months in a row with the decreases coming equally both from domestic trips as well as international trips.
While the news was not great in October, the average ticket price continued to increase when compared against the previous month.
For the first time the average EMD value decreased with decreases in EMD sales while transactions increased.
Total Sales - a decrease to 97% vs 2022 and a decrease to 87% of 2019.
